Black Prince Tomato Seeds, 10 pcs.
- from Siberia
- large fruits with interesting coloring
- grows up to approx. 140 cm high
- Harvest time: July to October
Because it was bred in Irkutsk in southern Siberia, the Black Prince is a very robust tomato variety that does not have too high demands on its location. Nevertheless, it should not get too much rain, otherwise, like most beef tomatoes, it tends to burst. Its fruits grow on panicles, weighing up to 350 grams. The reddish-brown, partly black coloring is a real eye-catcher and also the taste of the Black Prince does not need to hide. Its juicy flesh has an interesting, intense and slightly sweet-sour taste. In visual contrast to the dark exterior, this tomato is almost white inside. The Black Prince can be used for cooking or eaten raw. Because it develops a large root system, this plant requires large and deep pots, but it needs to be watered less often than other varieties.
Growing and care
Tomato seeds like it a little warmer for germination. The temperature should be between 20 and 25 °C for this variety. A heated propagator is particularly suitable for propagation. The seeds can be pre-soaked for 12 hours between layers of cellulose (e.g. kitchen roll) and then placed directly in soil. Germination usually takes place after one to two weeks. As soon as the plants are more robust and no more frost is expected outdoors, you can plant them out.
Soil and location
To ensure that your tomato plants develop vigorously and bear plenty of fruit, it is best to give them a good quality substrate. The soil should be rich in nutrients and airy and should always be kept slightly moist. However, waterlogging should be avoided at all costs, so make sure that the water can drip out of the pots. As tomatoes are very light-hungry, they need a place where they get at least 6-8 hours of sun a day and are protected. The more sun your tomato plants get, the richer their harvest will be!
Tip:
Depending on the variety, it makes sense to prune the plants. This is especially the case with stake tomatoes, so you can save yourself the trouble with bush tomatoes. By pruning, you prevent too many small tomatoes from forming. If you trim your plants skilfully, you will get a few fruits less, but they are usually larger and have a better aroma.
