The California Wonder Chili has the appearance of a commercial pepper, but delights with a very fruity, aromatic and partly sweet flavour. The plant is very productive and you can harvest the pods already when green (if you like) . Just like peppers, the California Wonder Chilli is very suitable for frying, grilling and cooking. It also tastes great as a stuffed fruit in the oven or pickled.
Germination and growing
To get this variety to germinate, you should offer them an environment with a temperature between 20 and 28 °C. A heated greenhouse is ideal for this. Whether you pre-germinate the seeds in two layers of kitchen roll or let them grow directly in soil is entirely up to you. When you place the seedlings in pots, you should use a well-fertilised and airy soil and make sure that the water does not accumulate. Chilli plants need a lot of sun for their development and certain minimum temperatures for the ripening of the fruits. Therefore, place them in a suitable spot where they get at least 6-8 hours of sun and plant them in pots rather than flower pots. This makes it easier to bring them indoors on days with temperatures below 12 °C in early autumn - so the fruits can still ripen despite the sometimes long ripening period.
