The Cayenne Golden Chilli is a robust variety that is well suited for cultivation in our latitudes. It has the typical Cayenne flavour and a rather unusual colouring of the fruits. Its long pods, which are golden yellow when ripe, have a smooth, thin skin and show an increasing degree of heat as they grow larger and ripen longer. This variety is considered to be quite productive and, with proper care, will provide you with fresh, ripe chillies again and again over many weeks. Cayenne Golden Chillies are excellent when dried and are good for curries, salsas or pickling.
Germination and growing
To get this variety to germinate, you should offer them an environment with a temperature between 22 and 28°C. A heated greenhouse is ideal for this. Whether you pre-germinate the seeds in two layers of kitchen roll or let them grow directly in soil is entirely up to you. When you place the seedlings in pots, you should use a well-fertilised and airy soil and make sure that the water does not accumulate. Chilli plants need a lot of sun for their development and certain minimum temperatures for the ripening of the fruits. Therefore, place them in a suitable place where they get at least 6 - 8 hours of sun and plant them in pots rather than in flower pots. This makes it easier to bring them indoors in early autumn on days with temperatures below 12 °C - so the fruits can still ripen despite the sometimes long ripening period.
