The delicious basil specialty for foodies: Mexican spice basil for your garden or windowsill.
Mexican spice basil (Ocimum basilicum cinnamon, a.k.a ?cinnamon basil?) is a rare, particularly aromatic basil specialty. It has a very sweet aroma and the plants are characterised by their lovely scent.
A healthy cinnamon basil plant has deep green leaves and lovely reddish-purple blossom, which also lends the plant decorative qualities.
For culinary use, you are best off using fresh leaves, either whole or chopped. A wonderful addition to almost any Mediterranean meal.
This plant is usually very bushy and has a high yield. If you wish to extend the harvesting period of this annual plant, it is recommended that you regularly trim the shoot tips to stimulate new growth in the plant and to prevent flowering, as the plant reaches its aromatic peak at the start of the flowering period. In an indoor garden, you can carry out this process over several months before the basil's taste is noticeably reduced.
As a plant that needs warmth, it can only germinate at 17°C and warmer. Therefore, do not plant the seeds outdoors before mid-May and ensure that it is in a sunny location, protected from wind.
Usage: Year-round (one year) in an indoor garden, mid-May to autumn in an outdoor space.
