With a heat level of 0, the Long Red Ringo chillies are well suited for grilling, fresh in salads or as finger food for dips. The ripe fruits are very juicy and have a slightly sweet taste instead of heat. Due to the rather short ripening period of 70 - 80 days, you will soon have a rich harvest and can surprise your friends at dinner with home-grown pointed peppers.
Germination and growing
To get this variety to germinate, you should provide them with an environment with a temperature between 22 and 28 °C. A heated greenhouse is ideal for this. Whether you pre-germinate the seeds in two layers of kitchen roll or let them grow directly in soil is entirely up to you. When you place the seedlings in pots, you should use a well-fertilised and airy soil and make sure that the water does not accumulate. Chilli plants need a lot of sun for their development and certain minimum temperatures for the ripening of the fruits. Therefore, place them in a suitable spot where they get at least 6-8 hours of sun and plant them in pots rather than flower pots. This makes it easier to bring them indoors on days with temperatures below 12 °C in early autumn - so the fruits can still ripen despite the sometimes long ripening period.
