For all those who appreciate the extremely tasty aroma of habaneros, but do not get on so well with the often quite intense heat, there is the NuMex Suave Orange Chilli. It was bred especially for its great habanero flavour, but only averages 750,000 Scoville - for most chilli lovers a value that is quite bearable. In good conditions, your plants will grow up to 120 cm tall and the yields of pods will be correspondingly abundant. The fruits of the NuMex Suave Orange Chilli are excellent for seasoning a wide variety of dishes, for stuffing, fresh eating and for delicious salsas.
Germination and growing
To get this variety to germinate, you should provide them with an environment with a temperature between 21 and 28 °C. A heated greenhouse is ideal for this. Whether you pre-germinate the seeds in two layers of kitchen roll or let them grow directly in soil is entirely up to you. When you place the seedlings in pots, you should use a well-fertilised and airy soil and make sure that the water does not accumulate. Chilli plants need a lot of sun for their development and certain minimum temperatures for the ripening of the fruits. Therefore, place them in a suitable spot where they will get at least 6-8 hours of sun and plant them in pots rather than flower pots. This makes it easier to bring them indoors in early autumn on days with temperatures below 12 °C - so the fruits can still ripen despite the sometimes long ripening period.
