Plant Seeds, Japanese White Egg
- flowering: June - July
- annual
- not hardy
- grows up to 50 cm high
Germination and cultivation:
The seeds of this plant need temperatures of about 25° to germinate. Until germination, the seeds should always be kept slightly moist, regardless of whether you pre-germinate them or germinate the seeds directly on growing soil. It is generally helpful to use a heated mini-greenhouse to increase the germination rate and to provide the seedlings with a favourable climate for their first growth phase. After about 1 to 2 weeks you should be able to spot the first seedlings.
Ovoid fruits - a real eye-catcher
The japanes white egg grows up to 50 cm high in our latitudes and bears violet-red flowers between June and July. Afterwards, white fruits form that look very similar to a hen's egg. These are not edible, but are simply ingenious as decoration on your balcony or in a sunny spot in the flat. After a while, the fruits turn yellowish-orange and later purple. In this way, they offer you ever-changing colour accents until autumn. The japanes white egg likes it rather warm and not too moist, but the pot should never dry out completely. Otherwise it is rather undemanding and does well with the usual planting soils.
